Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Are we really as individualistic as society pushes us to believe? Do we really think only of ourselves and our interests, not caring about others? Social psychology does not at all agree. And, over time, he has investigated what is behind our supportive behaviors towards people who are in a state of discomfort and difficulty: empathy, altruism and pro-sociality. The volume is concentrated on these dimensions, introducing the reader into the various key definitions and illustrating the essential components (emotional and cognitive) so that we can truly speak of empathy and the assumption of the perspective of others and not of other overlapping constructs (such as emotional contagion, sympathy and compassion). The study carried out by the authors on the link between altruism and pro-sociality on the one hand, and the sphere of social values and norms on the other, is also very stimulating. Finally, attention to the concrete application of these dimensions is not lacking: the voluntary service and the benefits it provides for those who implement it and those who receive it.
