Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The notion of emergence is the subject of ever-increasing interest in the contemporary debate on the philosophy of mind. Its roots, however, are older and date back to the reflections of some scholars, operating in the 1920s, called "British Emergentists". The aim of this essay is to offer an overview of the main theses supported by these authors in reference to the concept of emergence. Despite the differences that distinguish the individual thinkers, we are convinced that it is possible to identify some recurring themes, which play a leading role also in the current discussion.
