Abstract
From the beginning of the seventeenth century Elizabeth of Hungary was venerated as a patron of the Third Order Secular of Saint Francis. Historically, she neither had institutional connections with the Friars Minor nor was she able to have been part of the Third Order. Through the exam of the hagiographical sources - above all the Libellus written by her servants - and of the history of the beginning of the Lesser Brothers in Germany, it is possible to define that Elizabeth encountered the 'oldest' style of life of the fairs and dedicated herself to the sick and poor. For this she named to St. Francis the hospital-leprosarium she founded in Marburg
