Abstract

This book means to introduce Queen Elizabeth I's poems to the Italian audience. The texts translated and analysed range from epigrams to love lyrics, to some verse exchange with some famous characters of XVI century England, to stanzas thanking God for the victory over the Spanish Armada. The themes these poems deal with are strictly bound to the historical context which generated them and the events which characterized the life of the queen: her imprisonment at Woodstock, her love affair with the Duke of Anjou, her victory over Philip II of Spain and the analysis of her own life a few years before her death.
