Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The classification of the transposons is complex and, using the classification method reported in the database of the transposable elements of maize (http://maizetedb.org), can be divided into classes, subclasses, orders, superfamilies, families and subfamilies. At the highest level of classification, plant TEs can be divided into two classes: TE class I (TE1) and class II TE (TE2). The distinction is mainly based on the nature of the transposition intermediate. In TE1 the transposition takes place through an RNA intermediate produced by transcription of the TE integrated in the genome. In TE2 the transposition takes place directly via DNA and their transposition can take place with "cut-and-paste" and "copy-and-paste" modes ".
