Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Fear is the oldest of emotions, a kind of autopilot that implements an instinctive response that has worked for thousands of years. Although it is no longer escaping from predators, but they face more sophisticated threats, real or imagined, capable of detecting danger is a valuable resource not only to survive in the physical world, but especially in the Social relations. Courage is not if one can give it, said Don Abundio, but, as we have learned from this book, fear is a healthy reaction that prepares us for action. And the answer can be more intelligent, depending on the case, the fight, the flight, avoid intelligent obstacles or a good laugh that hides the enemy. The book also refers to many other chains: the different cultural attitudes towards existential fear of the most painful aspects of the human condition, from the pleasure of watching a horror movie with a taste for adventure.
