Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Luigi Einaudi in his ability to translate pro-European ideals into projects is still relevant today also to remind us of what has not been achieved in the EU and EMU. The extent and quality of Einaudi's analyzes and projects on Europe are such as to make an adequate discussion on "economy and institutions" impossible, at least for me. The Author makes a selection underlining that 60 years have passed since Einaudi's death and the same number since he wrote his last essay on Europe in 1956, the first being in 1897. His Project for a federated Europe remains masterful for many reasons, including of which I mention three fundamental ones. The first is the request to place Europe in the context of the Nations, in a perspective of peace and institutional, economic and social development with Italy included (indeed co-protagonist) of this project. The second is Einaudi's ability to outline concrete projects for the political and economic construction of a federated Europe which then partially, albeit importantly, materialized starting in the 1950s. The third is the contribution of Einaudi as a scholar to European (and not only) reflection on the various forms of federalism and his influence on Altiero Spinelli and Ernesto Rossi who gave a crucial political contribution to Europe with the "Ventotene Manifesto" of 1944 .
