Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] This work is organized as follows. The second paragraph presents the main economic channels through which the union can influence the determination of wages and their distribution. The third paragraph illustrates the international scenario, putting the Italian experience in comparison with those of the main OECD countries. In the fourth paragraph, a review of the studies that have documented the effects of trade union action on the structure of wages in Italy is presented. The fifth paragraph focuses on how the inequalities in the labor market have changed and how they are changing, also in light of the globalization of the markets and the contractual deregulation process. Finally, the last paragraph proposes a reading of the new challenges that await the union in light of new institutional arrangements and economic balances after the great crisis.
