Education to Filial Piety at the Time of the Kangxi Emperor. A French Translation of the Yuzhi Xiaojing yanyi xu in a Manuscript Preserved at Biblioteca Ambrosiana.

This article generally describes the content of six folders about Chinese matters preserved in “Fondo Bossi” at Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan. These folders contain three copies of a letter written by Father Joseph Marie Anne de Moyriac de Mailla SJ (1669-1748) to his Father General and the translation in French language, probably realized by Father Bouvet, of the “Preface to the Classic on Filial Piety” (Xiaojing yanyi xu 孝經衍義序) written by Emperor Kangxi in 1690; last folder contains many comments on the content touched upon in the translation. The article concentrates in particular on the content of the translation, comparing it with the original in Chinese language and underlying where the translation consistently differ from the original text.
