Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The publication of a book is an operation strongly mediated by elements external to the sender and its direct recipient, determined by the socio-economic-cultural context within which and for which the book takes shape. To coordinate the work of these mediators of the literary work is, in the modern and contemporary age, the publisher. A scrupulous observer of the age in which he lives, a rigorous connoisseur of the public, he sometimes addresses the scholar, sometimes a scholar, a prudent investor, the publisher, defined as the 'protagonist' in Italy since the 1930s precisely because of the role it embodies, it has filtered and filtered the culture of an era, contributing, on the other hand, to the success of a writer and, consequently, to the creation of an intellectual climate, of a society and a typical reader
