Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Econometrics, as the very etymology of the word suggests, is a discipline that deals with the quantification and measurement of economic phenomena. It is part of the broader scientific branch that goes under the name of 'economic' or 'economy' (in the double distinction between 'political economy', more properly aimed at theoretical approaches, and 'economic policy', more properly aimed at applications). But at the same time econometrics claims its autonomy, precisely with reference to the representation of economic phenomena and their relationships in quantitative terms and to their actual measurement.
