Abstract
Eastern Christians have played a fundamental role as cultural mediators, especially in the Abbasid era and in the XVII-XVIII century, when they initiated a "Nahda before the Nahda". They are currently threatened from the inside and the outside. Their disappearance would strike a mortal blow to pluralism in the Arab world.
