Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Self-serving bias is a cognitive bias that leads individuals to make internal responsibilities following a success and external attributions following a failure. In the present work the self-serving bias was analyzed within the couple relationship through an experimental task. The research involved 32 intimate couples and 32 pseudocopies formed by two strangers paired by the experimenter in the laboratory. The participants, after having performed a task with an interdependent result, received feedback regarding their joint performance and attributed responsibility for the outcome of the task. The results showed that couples manifest the other-serving bias or they tend to attribute the merit for a success to the partner and the blame for a failure to themselves. This result was read as an indicator of the couple's identity as partners.
