Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] In our country, the consumption of alcohol and drugs among workers is an area of investigation that has not yet been sufficiently explored by social research, even in the face of an emergency that this phenomenon bodes with respect to the risks for individual and collective health. International research on the subject emphasizes not only the increase in the number of consumers (especially occasional) of psychotropic substances, but also the presence of users regularly included in the labor market, whose use of drugs is difficult to identify. The volume seeks to fill the knowledge gap in the field by investigating the relationship between the consumption of psychotropic substances, health and the world of work through the analysis of theoretical frameworks and an integrated empirical pathway that involved five Italian universities (University of Bologna, University of Trento, University of Macerata, University of Rome "La Sapienza", University of Salerno), each committed to examining some specific professional categories. The research shows a large presence of risk factors in the world of work with respect to the consumption of psychotropic substances (such as, for example, a widespread state of stress, moods and nervousness connected to the job), favorable beliefs regarding the use of alcohol and drugs, situations of proximity and availability of psychoactive substances in company settings. In the conclusions, some guidelines are proposed for the design of policies and the implementation of interventions within work contexts.
