Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] These are two of the author's contributions written twenty years apart. The first contribution ("Unemployment and the principle of solidarity") was written in 1989 and was presented to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences in response to the publication of the Encyclical Laborem Exercens. The second contribution ("Social Doctrine of the Church and Economic Theory") is the report presented at the International Symposium of University Teachers in 2010, in response to the publication of the Encyclical Caritas in Veritate. In it the Author presents a general view of the events that led to the entire core of the social doctrine of the Church begun with the publication of the Encyclical Rerum Novarum (1891) by Leo XIII. In this encyclical, as is well known, the aim is to give an answer to the social question that has been raised by the serious problems raised by that epochal event that economic historians have called the 'industrial revolution' of the modern era.
