Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The chapter deals with the question of the separation between new generations, social representation and current political offer. A detachment at the same time cause and consequence of the discrepancy between young people and the labor market, but even more in general of the weakening of the role of the new generations in the processes of economic, social and cultural growth of the country. As is emphasized in this chapter, on the one hand, Italy needs more young people than it is able (for many reasons intertwined) to demonstrate, on the other hand, young people themselves need to test themselves and make their own impact on reality more than they succeed in expressing. The outcome, as documented by the data, is a growth of disillusionment and mistrust towards politics and the ruling class in general. And yet in the youngsters themselves there is a strong awareness that individuals left to themselves can only defend themselves and adapt to the downside with respect to the difficulties of the present and to the great changes in society and in the world of work. In fact, there is a great demand for collective representation and political action capable of improving the opportunities of the new generations, but current unions and parties seem unable, for the young respondents, to provide credible and convincing answers. In the meantime confusion and disillusion dominate.
