Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] This essay starts with a brief discussion of the role of institutions in fostering and promoting business activity and, within this framework, the functions of company law and corporate governance. The current debate in our country is separated into two parts, one relating to the need to change the corporate structure, the other to the self-regulatory code for listed companies. It precedes the presentation of a minimum of empirical evidence on the structure and distribution of companies as a useful reference in defining the 'reform needs' of the Italian system.
