Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Democracy hinges on an alphabet of symbols and oppositions. Yes and no it is the antithetic couple that is at the base of the whole democratic process, its bare and deeper root: every decision, every law, from the far times of the Greek agora to today, to social media, in search of consensus to every cost, aimed at this: yes and no. All of this ended up making them fetishes, idols, something that reproduces itself infinitely. But the fetish is the opposite of democracy: democracy is also knowing how to say no, manifesting one's opposition, opposition. This careful and multifaceted book by Franco Riva leads us to the discovery of all the various idols in which our democracy has slipped more and more: from the fetishes of leaderism to those of freedom, economy, ethics.
