Dinamiche identitarie e sociali: le sfide per le prime e le seconde generazioni musulmane in Italia

[Autom. eng. transl.] The research results presented in the contribution, albeit with some limitations related to the numerical size of the participants and their heterogeneity (as to geographical origins, biographies, migratory patterns ..), offer a picture of the complexity of the acculturative processes experienced by the first and second generations of Muslim migrants. The challenge of constructive integration of different cultural universes is not a simple and obvious task. This emerges for the first generations, but also for the latter who, born and raised in Italy, are doubly challenged in their path of growth by often contradictory expectations: as children of immigrants, they live by the expectations and mandates of the family of origin and at the same time, as generations, they are prompted by the expectations that the host society with its institutions (school, work,) has about them. Furthermore, biculturalism, where adopted, is clearly a more feminine than a masculine strategy. The dialectic between the two cultural universes (the one referring to the origin and the one represented by the cultural references of the country of immigration) is, moreover, experimented in different ways by male and female of the second generation, as our data suggests and as emerges from some European research. For males a marked discontinuity emerged with respect to the first generations: they are, in fact, more oriented to assimilation to Italian culture and less interested in maintaining the link with their own culture of origin, less identified with Islam and less observant, the most satisfied with the migration project. For females, the link with the culture of origin and with religion remains strong and not 'negotiable', in greater continuity with the orientations of the first generations. This specificity of the male and female acculturation paths certainly deserves further study, as it seems to emerge also from the rare European research in this area.
