Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The surname carries numerous symbolic aspects linked to the identity of the individual and the social and relational context in which he or she is inserted. This article aims to provide a socio-demographic approach to the study of surnames, reasoning on the motivations underlying the choice of adopting the double surname in Italy. In light of this, the first official data available will be analyzed and commented.
