Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The disease belongs to a universe of meaning linked both to the biopolitical vision of the individual and to the fears of the collective unconscious towards one's own historical era. The representation of the disease can in fact favor the understanding of the efforts made by society to transcend the negativity that threatens it. In recent years, Alzheimer's disease is undoubtedly the disease that best speaks of the obsessions and nightmares of our time: in fact, no longer the fear of the invasion of a virus or a foreign body, but the emptying of the ego from an overstimulated body of information, both in intensity and quantity. Through the analysis of two film cases - the mainstream film Still Alice (R. Glatzer-W. Westmoreland, USA 2015) and the documentary The Genius of Marian (B. White-A. Fitch, USA 2013) - this essay intends on the one hand, dealing with the definition of a theoretical paradigm aimed at framing the relationship between gender and health; on the other hand, it aims to consider the cultural symptoms of Alzheimer's as a place to reflect differently on the current female vulnerability.
