Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Targets. The article intends to verify the role of the company dimension with respect to the ability to implement an agile supply chain. The increasing levels of variety and variability of demand, which distinguish more and more sectors, require companies to reorganize their production processes to improve responsiveness and seize often impromptu market opportunities. However, this result can only be achieved if the reactivity in the production field is combined with the ability to understand what the market requires (the so-called "market sensitivity"). The hypothesis tested in this article is that the "market sensitivity", necessary to achieve agile supply chains, is achieved in different ways depending on the size of the company. Methodology. The study was conducted through the analysis of four business cases related to Fashion System companies. Results. The cases show that large companies seek "market sensitivity" through the adoption of ICT and best practices, while small and medium-sized companies take advantage of the superior experience and intuition that often distinguishes their employees. Search limits. The limits of this study are linked to the qualitative methodology used and refer above all to the generalizability of results. Practical implications. The study provides useful indications in relation to the risks that can compromise the transition of the agility paradigm, distinguishing them according to the size of the company. Originality of the work. The paper highlights the crucial role of the company dimension with respect to the ability to create "agile" production-logistic models
