Abstract

Digitalization in social work is part of a set of transformations that, with lights and shadows, entails social workers more and more utilizing ICT in their professional practice. Necessarily, educators in social work education are involved in such changes. Nonetheless many open questions remain to be answered regarding social workers’ skills and the redefinition of social work practice in welfare services. After a short literature review on digital skills in social work and social work education, this article gives some food for thoughts, based on an exploratory research on bachelor and master degrees in Social Work provided by Italian universities. This research is aimed to survey contents related to digitalization in curricula, investigate innovative teaching activities, and get to know degree coordinators’ opinions, interests and priorities on digitalization.
