Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The consumption of alcohol, which has exploded among young people especially in recent years, is a phenomenon to be kept in particular attention due to the serious repercussions it can have not only on the individual, but on the whole society. The objective of this study, included in a school health promotion project, is to quantify and characterize this current Public Health problem. All the students of a high school in the Marche received a questionnaire of 20 multiple choice questions aimed at investigating the characteristics of alcohol intake and the related behavioral repercussions among adolescents. The results of the questionnaire, compiled by 100% of the students, were the subject of discussion and discussion between students and professors. The sample consisted of 171 girls and 131 boys between 14 and 19 years old. From the analysis of the questionnaires it appears that they are holidays (66%), followed by discos and pubs (36%), the places where most young people drink most often; consequently the company is the main motive for the immoderate consumption of this substance (37%), although it is striking how 17% report drinking only to "spend the evening". About 50% of respondents consume spirits, often for fun (93% of girls claim to have played alcohol games at least once) or to lower their inhibitions (27%). In our sample, the female gender generally prevails over males in the consumption of alcohol, but also in the perception of health risks: respectively 46% against 30% consider alcohol "very harmful", 49% against 56% " quite harmful ", while only 5% against 14% underestimate the dangerousness (" little "or" not at all "harmful). Our study confirms that the consumption, often immoderate, of alcohol is, especially among the youngest, the result of a voluntary behavior, rooted in the curiosity of experimentation and motivated by multiple socio-psychological factors. The incomplete awareness of the risks associated with alcohol underlines the importance of continuing in the prevention activity, not only through national and international campaigns and regulations, but also with targeted local training interventions, especially in schools. With this in mind, a survey was rescheduled in the same high school to evaluate the progress achieved thanks to this activity which, by integrating with the values education offered by the family, wants to promote a careful and conscious consumption of alcohol, underlining the dangerousness of the behavior at risk.
