Abstract

The "Dizionario Tecnico Illustrato" by Francesco Faà di Bruno, written from 1872 to 1878, was intended to popularise new technical knowledge and to enable a wide audience to have an appropriate specialised terminology in Italian. The history and the study of this work suggest a significant example of specialised dictionaries within the development of the history of knowledge.
