Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The mottle of the loquat, caused by the fungus Fusicladium eriobotryae, is the main disease that affects this crop in Spain. On the fruits the fungus produces brown-olive spots that prevent its commercialization. So far, due to the lack of specific information about the disease, recommendations to farmers for their management have been made based on existing information for mottling apple trees. However, in recent years, several studies have been carried out on the biology of F. eriobotryae and the epidemiology of loquat mottling, which have improved the knowledge of the disease cycle. The results of these studies have been used to develop a dynamic and mechanistic model, capable of predicting the infection of loquat fruits by conidia of F. eriobotryae. This model simulates the periods of infection of the loquat mottle and its severity through the sub-processes of dispersion, infection and latency. Changes from one state to another depend on environmental factors described by mathematical equations. For its validation, during three cultivation campaigns the prediction of the model was compared with the progress of the disease observed in a loquat plot located in Callosa d'En Sarrià. As a result, the model accurately predicted the timing and severity of infection periods, as well as the disease's progress in fruits (with correlation coefficients> 0.95). The results of the model were in accordance with the assessment that an expert gave of the severity of the disease during seven cultivation campaigns. The model will be integrated into a loquat system of loquat notices, which will optimize the application of fungicidal treatments, reducing their number and optimizing application times.
