Deporte, Cooperación Y Desarrollo Local. La Experiencia Del Playground De Manenberg (Cape Town).

[Autom. eng. transl.] There are more and more projects that use sport as a means of social integration and, to a lesser extent, international cooperation for local development. This fact occurs in parallel to the appearance of the Sports Foundations, mostly private, which have been multiplying in Europe. In the present communication, an experience of Participatory Social Research is analyzed that makes sport a tool for inclusion and community development. The project, called Champions Playground, is carried out in the ManenbergenCapeTown neighborhood (South Africa) and forms part of an international collaboration agreement between the Champions for Children Foundation, the Catholic University of the Sacred Cuore of Milan and the Ramon Llull University of Barcelona by European part, and by various local organizations such as Western Cape University, the Mandela Foundation and the Public Administration of Cape Town, among others, by South Africa. The project consists of the construction and activation of a Playground designed as a community meeting point. A multi-use facility that overflows the space of the game to become a melting pot of the social by cooperatively interconnecting three key social areas: education, health and work. It is, therefore, a collaboration project generating social capital; a project that starts from the sports "aesthetic community" to establish agreements and commitments of greater scope and ethical-social responsibility among the different agents involved. In the first part, data are provided that outline the demographic, social, cultural and economic situation of the Manenberg neighborhood and establish the most relevant social problems. Second, the theoretical arguments for the configuration of the project are shown and the relevant areas of action are centered. And finally, it reflects on strengths, the problems and limits of this type of project.
