Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The chapter talks about ethical competence as the ability to translate fundamental educational principles into collaborative practices and technical tools. The deontology of an educator is measured in the clarity with which he manages to keep educational principles in mind, but the educational work is interwoven with ethical dilemmas, i.e. logical configurations in which it is not possible to make a clearly better choice than the others. Each time it is necessary to act responsibly and to negotiate the choices with the actors involved, thus exercising specific skills of mediation and coherence. Above all, therefore, the individual operator is required to have the ability to bring their own values into play, to support their own positions, but also to negotiate compromise solutions and then be the convinced bearer of the decisions taken together. As far as the technical tools are concerned, by way of example, the Individualized Educational Project is treated, which requires the operator to know how to formulate achievable objectives based on knowledge of the person and the educational context, to know how to estimate maturation times and to know to wait, to know how to humbly and prudently create and verify some indicators necessary to monitor the educational process, to know how to triangulate and keep track through the deferral/referral tools, thus creating a significant memory for the person and for the actors involved. In a continuous relational "ping pong", the educator must also have clear steps to ensure that each educational project has a life cycle supported by the relationship. Professional deontology requires these risks to be avoided at all costs, and ethical competence provides the operator with the ability to incorporate as much as possible, into his tools and working methods, the values he has chosen to embody. It is always possible to make mistakes but it is necessary to be vigilant because the risks are large: confusing the subjects, the responsibilities, demanding and not having patience, having no memory, having an anecdotal and not credible approach, not keeping track of the path, precluding collaboration.
