Dentro le scuole. Il caso della Toscana

[Autom. eng. transl.] In Tuscany the schools selected for the case studies are: two secondary schools of first degree; two Technical Institutes; two scientific high schools, one of which has a high address characterization. Almost all schools are located in urban areas or in small towns near large cities, only one institution is located in a mountain area. The picture that emerges is rather varied (Fig. X.1). Four schools are placed in contexts with low criticality (Quadrant 2 and 3) and only in one case does the school (Liceo0) fail to activate a network of actors who act in an integrated logic that determines the possibility that the school can exploit at best the conditions of origin on the results produced. The remaining two schools being studied (Quadrant 1 and 4) the high criticality of the context is determined by the high presence of foreigners and Italian families with a low income and a low level of education. The two institutes "respond" to these criticalities in opposite ways: on the one hand a school (Media0) does not react to the marginality of the socio-economic environment by creating a "flight effect", on the other the second school (Media1) perceives the context as challenge to be addressed in order to level out the inequalities of educational opportunities. In this first paragraph, the main characteristics of the schools are analyzed in depth according to their position in the graph (Fig. X.1) and in relation to the performance in terms of student competences (as specified in Chapter VII)
