Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Decent Living Enterprise is a family business based in East Africa that has existed since the 1960s. In its early days, the company's mission was to ensure family livelihood. From year to year, the family patrimony as well as the transactions of Decent Living Enterprise was consolidating and growing stronger. This case study argues that the integration of the young generation in the business of the family business has a double dimension: internal and external. The internal dimension is composed of the family environment (environment) as well as values and traditions transmitted from generation to generation. As next of kin take part in company traditions, they begin to see themselves as as equal members, which creates an environment marked through a sense of belonging, mutual trust and sense of loyalty. This internal dimension makes it possible to avoid the possibility of having different levels of commitment and motivation inadequate, due to the lack of a stimulating and inspiring environment. Indeed, any motivation or commitment inadequate are likely to affect the desire felt by the close relatives to contribute to the development of the company. But a family business cannot survive despite family traditions and values. business ideas innovations are crucial. Peter Kimeu, CEO of Decent Living Entreprise, believes that career paths and the training profiles of close relatives can generate innovative ideas. It is this diversity that constitutes the external dimension. This case study demonstrates that the alliance various profiles of close relatives as well as the skills, the skills and knowledge they possess improve their ability to collaborate more closely and, as a result, promote creating an efficient and productive work environment. These two dimensions, external and internal, leading to positive or negative results, largely depend on how which they are managed. Well managed, they contribute to a effective decision-making process and, therefore, contribute to the growth of the company. Badly managed, they impoverish the decision-making process and put the very survival of the company in danger.
