De-constructing renewal in the construction industry: An interconnectedness approach to big projects

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

Our research project is aimed at exploring the meaning and the distinctive attributes of renewal in the design and implementation of two big construction projects in the greater Milan area: a multi-functional urban redevelopment project (Porta Nuova project) in the city centre and a hospital (nome della struttura) at Vimercate. The project gets an insight into what kind of renewal and how it is carried out in implementing the projects. The research takes on a wide perspective on renewal, seeing it as any modification in products, equipment/facilities, working methods/processes, and interorganizational relationships. The concept and the practices of renewal in our two construction projects will be embedded in the frame of internationalization and sustainability as key drivers of project development.
