[Autom. eng. transl.] In the context of the manifold expectations which the reading of the prophecies of Joachim of Fiore in the thirteenth century aroused, the prediction of the year 1260 as the date of the arrival of eschatological events played an important role. The remarkable progress of the research on Joachim of Fiore, which is also due to the critical edition of much of his complete work, today allows us to better explain the problem of the definition and significance of this date in Joachim's writings. There may even be a chance to filter out the specific source references, if not the actual reference source of his idea of the year of the end. The question of lineages could help embed the abbot's calculations better in the context of contemporary theological writings. However, this tendency towards simplification also means that the figurae do not reflect all the nuances of the essential script-based theological thought-building of the Calabrian abbot.
