Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] In the context of the manifold expectations which the reading of the prophecies of Joachim of Fiore in the thirteenth century aroused, the prediction of the year 1260 as the date of the arrival of eschatological events played an important role. The remarkable progress of the research on Joachim of Fiore, which is also due to the critical edition of much of his complete work, today allows us to better explain the problem of the definition and significance of this date in Joachim's writings. There may even be a chance to filter out the specific source references, if not the actual reference source of his idea of the year of the end. The question of lineages could help embed the abbot's calculations better in the context of contemporary theological writings. In addition to the works of prophetic character, which are variously associated with his name in the century after his death - often only by false attributions - in this lecture an instructive source finding [va bene come hai messo: io intendevo un caso per molti versi interesting, che testimonia l'attesa del 1260 sulla base degli scritti di Gioacchino], which is found in a manuscript of the Biblioteca civica Bertoliana di Vicenza, in the tradition of the diagrams of the "Genealogia Christi" of Peter of Poitiers. [come hai scritto va benissimo; è una versione della "Genealogia Christi"] The comparison with the real diagrams of Joachim is fundamentally important for this topic: it reinforces the impression that the figurae for the knowledge and the dissemination of the Joachimischen teachings has a much greater weight, as previously thought: since they were more expressive, clearer, and ultimately simplistic, they allowed a more direct access to his exegesis. However, this tendency towards simplification also means that the figurae do not reflect all the nuances of the essential script-based theological thought-building of the Calabrian abbot.
