Abstract
The essay points out the main stages in Dante’s speculation about the Occitan Troubadours, specifically focusing on the Commedia. Arnaut Daniel is the only troubadour to appear as a troubadour, while Bertran de Born, Sordel and Folquet de Marselha find their place in Dante’s Commedia according to their moral personality – both in the positive or negative sense. Actually, their poetical activity may have influenced Dante’s choice. The unnamed troubadour, i.e. quel de Lemosì, is almost certainly Giraut de Bornelh… or might he be Bernart de Ventadorn?
