Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The volume investigates the evolution of Hilary Putnam's thought in the first decades of her intellectual career, with particular attention to the theme of realism. The relationship between "scientific realism" - matured over the sixties through the confrontation with the epistemological questions inherited from neo-positivism - and the subsequent conception of "internal realism", starting from the second half of the seventies, has been studied highlighting mostly breakpoints. This approach has produced frequent unilateral interpretations, according to which scientific realism represents a reductionist conception of reality inspired by neo-positivists and internal realism an opposite anti-realist reaction. Greater attention to the points of continuity and the lines of progression between the two conceptions of realism is therefore interesting not only for broadening the research perspectives of studies on Putnam's thought,
but also to imagine a synthesis between the main instances of contemporary philosophy and, finally, to reflect on the complexity of human knowledge.
