Abstract
This article examines the role of the Iranian clergy during the Constitutional Revolution, a decisive crossroads for the Iranian history of the 20th century. It will analyse the origins and causes that led a part of the Iranian clergy to abandon its long-lasting apolitical tendency to start an increasingly active Involvement in the political dynamics of the country. Moreover, it will explore the conflicting tendencies within the clergy shedding lights on the respective claims of prominent clerics, that as to say, those who joined the constitutional project and those who challenged its fundamentals and outcomes. My aim is to observe how and why part of the Iranian clergy chose to abandon a quietist stance to embrace a significant involvement within the political sphere. This transformation will the historical basis for a politically committed religious thought that will be framed and recalled during the all twentieth century
