Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Father, a key word constituting the / in the Western family. We must ask ourselves if and why the father as a key word is not 'key' to the word. It is precisely this dimension - the structural relationship between the human subject's access to the word and the paternal function - that is shown through a specific need of the relational structure as found in the clinic. What happens today to the ancient celebration of the father on a symbolic level? Current events welcome a crisis of the father figure. This crisis does not start today, and not even yesterday, but dates following Ariès on the thread of the Ancien Regime crisis. For this reason it is decisive to ask why the great Vienna can host a question about the father as what Freud can put through the specific appeal to the father to whom his personal neurosis leads him? Lacan began his paternal quérelle at the end of the 1930s, following and beyond Freud practically at his death, exactly - and not by chance - in the moment of the beginning of the maternal infantile explosion of psychoanalysis. The emphasis given to the paternal function as the pivot of the oedipal normalization and the concept of "foreclosure" pose the idea that the father is not only the agent of a prohibition - à la Freud- but it is support to the symbolic Law as such, which is promotion of the subject at the level of desire. The father as a Name, as an operation of language, metaphorizes the enjoyment of the mother and produces a parlêtre from the little man, marked by a lack - to be. The theme of the Father as a principle of symbolic separation is closely connected to that of generativity: the father is the pivot of a metaphorizing logic, first of all of the generation itself, torn from its 'natural' and moved into the world of words, of meaning: the subject born in the world, as 'set aside' according to an original shift from its being a mute biological presence. This operation may not succeed, indicating this is a non-automatism of the structure and freedom of the subject and his possibility of choice. In other words, the true function of the Father is therefore to unite (and not to threateningly castrate) a desire with the Law. This particular relationship with the paternal question is the extreme paradox of subjectivity: to do without the father on condition of using it. Starting from the last seminars of Lacan, father is who makes a woman his sexual cause. Certainly he is not an ideal father, and would seem more suited to the exercise of function not only as a uni-versal-symbolic but capable of reaching a real: therefore not only the Name of the Father, orienting the subtraction of the maternal object, but the Father of Name, that is, a function that hosts an ultimate opacity, the singularity of the subject, real. It is there that the care - singular - that the father brings to his son lies, entrusted to his oedipal position not only for his symbolic place, but through his limit, which designates itself in the unrepeatable opacity of the name.
