Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] A vast fresco of Italian and European literature of the 19th and 20th centuries in relation to metaphysical horizons and religious tension, the essay traces the parable of modern culture from Faustian Streben to the Promethean spirit, up to the crisis of scientism and the consequent manifestation of a sentiment of orphanness, on which the contemporary search for a foundation is triggered.
