Abstract

Ezra Pound was included by Roberto Sanesi in his seminal Italian anthology of American poets belonging to the first half of the twentieth century. The volume was published in 1958, though finished in 1956, just one year after the first edition of a new section of Pound’s Cantos: Rock-Drill LXXXV-XCV de los Cantares. One of the four Cantos translated by Sanesi belongs to this section: Canto XC. This essay focuses on the latter to analyse Sanesi's approach, both as a translator and as a poet himself, to Pound's poetry. Sanesi’s first collection of poems, Il Feroce equilbrio, appeared in 1957 and many are the connections we have been able to highlight between the poems here contained and Canto XC. The aim of the essay is to highlight the general influence of Pound on Italian poetry in the first half of the XX century and, in particular, how he deeply affected Sanesi's inspiration from the very beginning of his poetic production.
