Abstract
The creation of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin is a major challenge for Central Banks. This is the reason why most Central Banks - both of advanced and emerging economies - are currently exploring the feasibility of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). The paper is a survey of the relative merits of a CBDC.
