Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The horrible banquet that Atreus prepares for his brother brother, constituted by the sons of this last one, is in Seneca's tragedy presented as a moment in which the monstrous and the supernatural seem to merge into a frightening unity; other authors separate this unity by privileging the appearance of the monstrous, which declines in the grotesque (in Persio, Sat. 3 the description of the drunk who dies after the crockery) or the aspect of the supernatural, which declines in the continuous search for the surprise effect. (the banquet organized by Trimalchione in Satyricon)
