Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The idea of a volume dedicated to Yu Hua's "Milanese lessons" arose from the literary tour that between October and November 2018 brought the Chinese author to numerous Italian cities. Starting from Milan, Yu Hua met students and readers in Turin, Enna, Naples, Rome, Macerata, Siena, Bologna and Venice, to then return to the Milanese city with three open lessons, held at the University's Intercultural Mediation and Communication Pole degli Studi di Milano, in which he spoke about literature (wenxue), culture (wenhua) and civilization (wenming). In Chinese these three words are formed from the character wen, "written sign", a fundamental concept in the past as well as in the present of the country. The volume collects the texts of the three meetings that Yu Hua held in Milan and in which he traced, in the form of a lively dialogue with scholars and the audience, the horizons of Chinese literature and of his own writing, the panorama of Chinese culture contemporary and the essence of its millenary civilization. The simple style and the ironic and lucid narration of Yu Hua live again in the Italian translations of the three lessons and in the original texts in Chinese that accompany them.
