Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] In 1973 the famous director Vittorio De Seta brought on television the drama "Diary of a master", produced the previous year. Presented to Italian viewers in four episodes on the RAI channels, the show was loosely based on the autobiographical book A year in Pietralata by A. Bernardini. The protagonists of the scene are the maestro Bruno D'Angelo, played by the Neapolitan actor B. Cirino, and his teaching experience with a fifth grade of an elementary school in the outskirts of Rome. Master D'Angelo's school was composed of children with problematic personal and family situations, which were reflected in their unruly and unruly behavior. The pupils of this class were interpreted by children who actually lived in the Roman township and who lived complex individual situations, which is why the TV series stands at the border between fiction and documentary. Maestro D'Angelo chose to avoid the traditional teaching method based on frontal teaching, to instead develop strategies more consistent with the needs of his students. His educational style, although hampered by the school director and other teachers, proved to be effective, because through the promotion of children's interests he stimulated confrontation and exchange in the group, prompting an important change in the children. Far from the formality and rigidity of the ministerial programs, the teacher supported an educational approach strongly connected to the experiences of the individual student. His way of making school, then, was intertwined with the life of the students, putting the content learning of the subjects in the background. The essay presents a historical-educational analysis of the television drama directed by De Seta, critically compared with the school situation of the time.
