Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The demands posed by the pursuit of a more sustainable development both globally and locally pose new challenges to companies but, at the same time, they determine the emergence of new opportunities. The simultaneous achievement of objectives of environmental integrity, social equity and economic prosperity in the management of the business represents one of the most stimulating and current keys to interpreting the aims of corporate action and the ways in which companies can translate these objectives into strategies to compete in complex contexts such as today. In this perspective, the objective of the volume is to understand how the adoption of a corporate sustainability orientation can allow companies to differentiate the ways in which they operate on the market by creating 'values' for customers, employees and the different stakeholders of reference, including the company as a whole; the emphasis is thus placed on logics and approaches linked to the integration, within the framework of the more general business strategies, of sustainable strategies and practices, aimed not only at creating economic value but at safeguarding environmental and social capital at all levels levels. The research presented here highlights the gradients with which this orientation has already found application in companies, as well as the enabling factors and obstacles related to its diffusion. They confirm that the adoption of a corporate sustainability orientation can have an impact in terms of effectiveness and efficiency on the way companies compete on the market, adopting a perspective that integrates the positions of supply and demand. The evidences that emerge from the analysis of concrete cases also provide useful insights in terms of managerial implications as to what the conditions and the ways in which it really becomes possible to overcome the apparent paradox between the ability to compete in a complex and investment environment can be. on environmental and social capital through the adoption of a perspective of interdependence between business reasons and the demands of sustainable development.
