Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Among the main challenges that organizations today are facing a central role is occupied by the increasingly extensive and intensive use of Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC). CMC is radically changing the way we communicate and work with colleagues, managers, suppliers and customers. In fact, it allows a mode of organization of economic activities and work on a global scale, with virtual teams that include members potentially located anywhere on the planet, according to uninterrupted operations: twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The keyword becomes "flexibility": both in the times and in the workplace. The high connectivity made possible by the CMC also makes it possible to carry out multiple collaborations and activities in parallel and to exchange information at volumes and rhythms unimaginable until a few decades ago. However, precisely what makes the CMC attractive and convenient from an organizational point of view raises some dilemmas among which the organizations are called to juggle. We will comment below on the three dilemmas that we believe present the most compelling challenges today.
