Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The Concord of the New and the Old Testament is the main work of Joachim of Fiore. Monumental text, the drafting of which kept him busy for over fifteen years, contains his theological vision of history, aimed at understanding the course of the Church by placing events and protagonists in perfect correspondence ("concord"). with events and figures from the Old Testament. An ambitious attempt to give full intelligibility to the entire history of salvation thanks to the identification and systematic application of a rigorous interpretation, the work hinges on the link between a binary and a ternary model, marked by the calculation of generations. Drawing on biblical stories and ancient and medieval histories and chronicles, Joachim offers a grandiose arsenal of apocalyptic schemes, messianic figures, prophetic and reforming demands of the Church, destined to imprint hopes and expectations of change for centuries. The critical edition of the Latin text (in four volumes, published by Alexander Patschovsky at the Monumenta Germaniae Historica), receives here the first translation into the modern language, enriched by a critical commentary and an extensive introductory study, original products by the curator of the Italian edition ..
