Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The process of banking internationalization has reshaped the global financial system. To understand the dynamics of this process it was considered appropriate to use the literature on the characteristics of international banking and that of corporate strategies in oligopoly conditions, thereby overcoming a purely descriptive approach to the phenomenon and connecting the specific situations of market globalization to the strategic behavior of the various actors involved. The Italian case appears particularly interesting as a test bench for this integrated approach, seeing a contemporary dynamics of entry of foreign banks and internationalization of large domestic groups. In this context, suitable national industrial policies can reconcile the dynamics of international regulatory harmonization with the development needs of the internal market.
