In the Art of War, attributed to Sun Tsu, great attention is paid to deception and disinformation in the achievement of victory. Machiavelli did not consider the Prince's use of disinformation at all unfortunate. Current media complicate the picture. The media, from ancient graffiti to social media, play an essential role in communication, because they allow to multiply the utterance beyond the here and now of enunciation, reaching distant and diversified audiences. They make it possible to create communities distributed throughout the territory, favoring the diffusion of ideas and visions of the world that go beyond local interest and refer to shared values.
