Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] How to reach the thought of the other? How can we communicate by translating our thoughts and intentions into images, actions and words that are effective and understandable? The text addresses these questions by providing an updated picture of the main points of tangency between two human faculties: thought and communication. the extraordinary ability to "think" - that is, to design, represent, categorize and narrate reality - is presented and explored not as the fascinating mechanism of a "monad mind", an incredible and isolated thought machine. Attention is focused on the skills of those who "think communicating", ie on the human being who knows, organizes and represents reality by acting with it and with other human beings. The different communicable formats of thought are analyzed. An act of communication, even the simplest, is presented as the articulated and complex set of sounds, actions and procedures. We use more semiotic systems: from images, words, gestures, music, which presuppose different ways of exploring reality, as well as different languages of the mind. Different formats, which in their own denomination provide for communicability: declarative knowledge and propositional thinking, figurative thinking and mental images, narrative and procedural thinking. The forms that thought can take when we communicate allow us to pursue multimodal and powerful expressive games. Through numerous and interesting examples the text illustrates the relational functions of this multimodal communicative action: not only the clarity of information is pursued, but also the strength of the evocation and expressive connotation (of a story, a picture and a film) , as well as the flexibility to coordinate one's actions with those of the interlocutor to achieve the most diverse communicative intentions (persuade, deceive, amuse, command, protect, etc.).
