[Autom. eng. transl.] The volume deals with the social understanding or Theory of Mind (ability to infer one's own and others' mental states, considering them causes of behavior) in the life cycle, with particular attention to the theme of emotions and with reference to the most recent data from research on theory of mind and neighboring research areas. Specifically, it shows the typical evolutionary paths of social understanding, from early childhood to old age, emphasizing the role played by understanding emotions - alongside that of cognitions - in the individual's intra and interpersonal life and exposing innovative concepts about well-being and on psychological risk (alexithymia, somatization, depression) in the course of life.
