[Autom. eng. transl.] The note analyzes the Industrial Production Index (IPI) in Italy by examining the trend and economic trends over time. The identification of the background and cyclic components of the IPI time series is carried out with an analytical apparatus that hinges on a discrete finite approximation of an ideal low-pass filter. The underlying trend that emerges is indicative of an ongoing crisis process, of a structural nature, operating in the country since the early years of the new millennium.
